Welcome to York Wines in the Avon Valley, Western Australia. Originally settled in the 1830's as Western
Australia's first in-land settlement, York boasts one of the best preserved 19th century townships in the whole of Australia. Situated 97km east of Perth, York is a perfect day's outing.
Established in 1998 on the outskirts of York by Mick and Jeni Delich, York Wines' vineyard consists of 6.5 acres of planted vines on a 320-acre farm. The vineyard contains three varieties, Grenache, Cabernet-Sauvignon and Shiraz, all of which are dry grown, meaning that they receive no irrigation and grow relying on natura
l precipitation only. The vineyard is chemical and preservative free during the entire growing, wine making and bottling process.
The geographical location of York leads to significant temperature variations. During summer, temperatures of 45 degrees Celsius can be reached, with night time temperatures in winter falling as low as –5 C. Annual rainfall is 400mm. As a product of this environment, the resulting wines have an intense colour and flavour, which varies from vintage to vintage depending upon how much rain falls and average temperatures.
York Wines prides itself on producing premium quality red wines that contain no preservatives or other additives from grapes that are grown in a chemical free environment. Why not drop in on your next visit to York and sample some of the unique wines on offer?
